Vanoise Express cable car scheduled to reopen on 20 December 20

January 21st, 2008.
The Vanoise Express cable car, linking point of the Paradiski area, will be reopening on 20 December for the start of the 2008-9 season.
Since a routine check revealed problems on the outer coating of some of the Vanoise Express cables, several laboratories have been called in to examine them more closely. Detailed inspections have continued since the authorities banned further operation of the cable car on 22 December 2007. Investigations should be complete by the end of February.
Whatever the findings the cables on the two Vanoise Express lines will be replaced. The company that built the facility placed an order for new cables on 15 January and the first batch of cables should be delivered at the end of May. Work installing the cables will last most of the summer, enabling the cable car to reopen for the 2008-9 winter season.
At present the Arcs/Peisey-Vallandry and La Plagne ski areas are fully open with access to all the runs, covering 425 kilometres. The season opened with excellent snow cover, more than three metres of snow having fallen since the beginning of November. All the staff in the Paradiski resorts look forward to welcoming visitors in the best possible conditions.
