Work commences on installing new cables for the Vanoise Express

The first of the four new cables that will carry the Vanoise Express cable car, connecting the two halves of the Paradiski area (Savoie), was delivered on Thursday the 26th June 2008.
Work fitting and adjusting the tension of the first cable start on the 2nd of July. The operation is carried out at the same time as the existing cables are removed. A second cable will be
fitted in the same way at the end of July, followed by the third in August with the final cable being installed in September. Installation of the four new cables should be completed by mid-
October, leaving the rest of the autumn for tests in preparation for the re-opening of the Vanoise Express.
Each load-bearing cable is more than 1.8 kilometres long, 7.5 cm in diameter and weighs 30 kg per metre, making a total weight of over 55 tonnes. The cables will be spooled out from the
Peisey station (elevation 1,612 m) to the station at Les Coches (1548 m) and will span a distance of 1,824 metres.
Work is on schedule for the Vanoise Express to re-open on the 20th December.

Début des travaux pour l’installation des nouveaux câbles du Vanoise Express

Le premier des quatre nouveaux câbles porteurs du téléphérique Vanoise Express, trait d’union du domaine skiable Paradiski (Savoie), a été livré ce jeudi 26 juin 2008.

Le déroulage et la mise en tension du premier câble porteur ont débuté le 2 juillet. L’opération se déroule en même temps que la dépose des câbles en place. Le déroulage et la mise en tension du second câble auront lieu fin juillet, puis se sera au tour de troisième en août et du quatrième câble en septembre.

L’installation des quatre nouveaux câbles se déroulera jusqu’à la mi-octobre. L’automne sera ensuite consacré aux essais préalables à la remise en service du Vanoise Express.

Chaque câble porteur mesure plus de 1,8 km de long pour un diamètre de 7,5 cm, pèse 30 kg au mètre, pour un poids de plus de 55 tonnes. Chaque câble sera déroulé et mis en tension depuis la gare de Peisey (altitude 1612 m) jusqu’à la gare des Coches (1548 m), distante de 1824 m.

Le planning est respecté pour une réouverture le 20 décembre 2008.
